History
The Arkansas Library Association will be celebrating its
centennial around the state and throughout 2011. It will be a year to remember
for the Association, and the members past and present.
Special promotions, activities and
celebration events will all be part of the festivities.
Planning for this celebration began several years ago when
Karen Russ became the Chair for the Centennial Planning Committee.
Karen asked for volunteers and recruited
others to accept the opportunity to serve on this four year project.
With a committee together work began and will continue
during 2011. Emails, meetings and written correspondence were all utilized while
planning this event. Ideas for fundraising included a Centennial Calendar
featuring library photos past and present from around our state. The committee
also reached out to vendors, guest speakers, sponsors, and others for support of
the celebration. A website was created and continued to grow with valuable
information as time progressed.
Information regarding the Centennial was sent out to
libraries through emails and links by ArLA Roundtables, Divisions, and the Arklib-L
mailing list. Working on the committee has been a labor of appreciation for the
Arkansas Library Association and its dedicated members. We are excited to assist
with the 2011 ArLA conference and the Association's 100th birthday.
Mission & Responsibilities
This is an informal statement since the committee has not yet been given a formal charge. The Centennial Planning Committee is responsible for planning events and materials to recognize the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Arkansas Library Association in 1911.
Duties of the Committee:
Planning special events for the Centennial year.
